July 4th - Independence Day. What does this day mean to you? Is it just a day off ? A time to hang out with friends? Or does it make you think of the Freedom we truly have in this country. Wilmington is one of the best places to celebrate the 4th of July. I am currently at the hotel watching fireworks shooting off of the Battleship North Carolina. It is an amazing site to see. 30,000 people from all over come here each year to watch an amazing show over the Cape Fear River. For me, July 4th has always been a special day. Every year on this day I always take time to reflect on my 6 years in the United States Air Force. Much of who I am today was formed through my short time in the military. I recently got the chance to welcome a group of retired military officers who were meeting at the hotel , it brought back some great memories. I told the group that one of my greatest mentors was Chief Master Sergeant Darr King and without him I would not be the person I am today. He instilled in me what true professionalism and patrioism is all about. Here was a man who served 23 years in the USAF and did a tour in Vietnam and still wanted to raise the flag at our office everyday.
